It's been a busy few weeks here at Nature's Roots Farm. It's so exciting to see new life on the farm and have the opportunity to watch animals grow and mature. This past week we added three new cows to our herd as well as two heifer calves (see pictures above). They have integrated very well and because of this our dairy supply has greatly increased. Additionally, we have been enjoying watching the baby chicks growing quickly (see picture below). There are 100 Cornish Cross & 100 Cornish Reds currently in the brooder and going out to pasture this week. They will be ready for processing in the end of May and beginning of June. We are also getting ducklings, baby turkeys and piglets in the next few weeks so we will share pictures as we integrate them onto our farm.

What’s growin’ on!? Brian here on this beautiful Tuesday afternoon. Although it is still a little chilly first thing in the mornings, we couldn't ask for any better weather to be working in. Over the past couple weeks we have been finishing up some of the projects I mentioned last newsletter and we have been expanding the gardens a bit more. Things are really taking off and we look forward to the yields this year in our gardens and orchards.

Hello! Brian here from Nature’s Roots Farm. It has been an absolutely crazy past couple of months with weather and all the projects going on around here. We have had to postpone a couple big projects because of the weather as well and frankly it's very frustrating. I wish the warm weather would just come on already. I am not sure what to say about this crazy weather except that this is what you call “Global Weirding,” according to Ben Falk a permaculture author I recently learned about. I would recommend his book, The Resilient Garden and Homestead for anyone wanting to learn more about permaculture and how to incorporate natural systems into your lifestyle as we do here at Nature’s Roots Farm.
